• 400 vocabulary words with a cumulative test at the end of the year.
• A wide spectrum of literature focusing on the specific aspects of a piece of literature such as theme, motif, tone, symbols etc. Various writing projects including creative writing, writing prompts, research papers, poetry, and several oral presentations including a dramatic monologue.
• Reading of at least eight novels throughout the year. Examples of the novels assigned include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Hiding Place, Animal Farm, Anthem, Johnny Tremain, and The Outsiders.
• Grammar is reinforced through writing assignments.

• Students will refine algebra skills focused on linear, quadratic, and polynomial equations for the purpose of basic problem solving, graphing, and word problem comprehension. Emphasis will also be placed on properly simplifying complex, radical, and rational expressions, solving systems of equations, and other fundamental concepts that will prepare the student for future maths and applications. In addition, students will do weekly mental math drills to maintain basic skills.
